Designing an efficient office layout requires a broad understanding of interpersonal communication, and how employees interact with new surroundings. When it comes to space planning, one size definitely does not fit all. It would be ideal if we could situate the new kitchen on the exterior wall on this side of the house. Unfortunately, due to the positioning of our water and gas meters and a large tree near this side, we must place it on the inside wall.
We are left with the option of placing it over here, which would mean opening up the floor plan to allow for a more open, spacious feel. Unfortunately there is no room on this wall for any major appliances, and thus we must place them facing each other near the window. This will result in an obtrusive bump-out along the exterior wall.
The more we look at this floor plan, the more we realise that it can’t accommodate our needs and desires for a modern, functional layout that fits with the aesthetic of our kitchen area. Our best bet is to place the appliances along this back wall and open up this space on the other side of the island. This will allow for plenty of space in the future should we ever need to expand either the kitchen or dining area to make room for a larger table. We can also place our appliances here and not have any major obstructions along this exterior wall, which leaves us with more than enough space on both sides of the island.
We think it would be best to place the refrigerator and pantry on this side of the kitchen, as we hope to eventually use that wall for a counter with sinks. This will leave cupboard space over here for a more spacious dining area. As it is now, there isn’t enough room between the bay window and exterior wall to accommodate our table and chairs – at least not in a way that we find aesthetically pleasing. The more space we can free up on this side, the better off we will be when it comes to getting the dining area of equal size with the kitchen.
We also think that placing our appliances facing each other along this wall is not ideal for both their aesthetic and functional qualities.
Thus, we must place the oven and stove on either side of the refrigerator. Doing so will allow for more space in this area to move freely while still allowing for adequate countertop space. This arrangement will be much more visually appealing than if we placed them facing each other, as well as keep our kitchen interior looking spacious and open. Placing the appliances along this side of the kitchen will also give us more space over here, which is better than having them along the back wall because it does not eat up so much room.
